Call to Action

At different times in this project, there will be events where your involvement can be very useful.  One of those is upon us.

The short version is: send a copy of this email to Sue.Ryan@NewbergOregon.gov with a subject of “Please forward to the Mayor and Council”.  That’s it!

On Monday, June 5, we attended the Newberg City Council meeting and presented a petition to request that the Council put in motion the consideration of an amendment to the City Charter that will remove their ability to collect the $1.88/$1,000 that is presently being used to fund Fire and EMS services.  A copy of that petition can be found here.

If you are a resident of Newberg, you can help by voicing your support of this request to the Council.  There are a few ways you can do this.

  • The easiest method is to send an email to the City Recorder to forward to the Council showing your support for the petition.  I’ve provided a sample here.  It should be emailed to Sue.Ryan@NewbergOregon.gov with a subject of “Please forward to the Mayor and Council” or email it to each of them individually.
  • Attend The Council will hold a regular meeting meeting (7pm, Monday, June 19, Newberg Public Safety Building, 401 East Third Street) at which they should make a decision on whether or not to proceed with the annexation process.  Sending an email such as the one mentioned above is a very easy method to have your voice heard.
  • Contact City Council members directly to voice your support of this effort. Their email addresses can be found on the City website.  Click here to view the page.  Click on each member’s picture to see their email address.

Please be respectful to the Council with your comments.  Remember that they are volunteers and are trying to do what they think is right for the community.  I may disagree with their opinions or decisions but I give them credit for being willing to spend the time to meet or to exceed their obligations as Council members.

Thanks to all of you who choose to be involved with this effort.
